Cocaine is a white powdery substance. It's a powerful stimulant extracted from the "Coca" plant. There are two types of cocaine: First, Cocaine hydrochloride. It's made from white crystalline cocaine powder and sugar, cornstarch, and baking soda. This type of cocaine is either ingested, injected, or snorted. The second type is Crack Cocaine. Processed with ammonia or baking soda to form a rock-like substance, is smoked by addicts.

Cocaine's effect on the brain is damaging. Upon intake, it causes immediate pleasure. This is because it floods the brain with dopamine. Though, with regular use, dopamine receptors in the brain shutdown. With that, cocaine users become dopamine deficient. When this happens, the addict becomes cocaine tolerant. It's at this point, that they need a higher and more intense dose of cocaine to replicate the original high.

In seeking that "high", cocaine use develops into an addiction due to tolerance. The damage results when cocaine replaces everything in life. At this point, the addict will need treatment to recover from cocaine addiction.

Cocaine Addiction - a Middle Eastern Problem

According to an online news agency, Vanguard, a 57 year old grandmother was arrested at Lagos airport. She was en route to Mecca for pilgrimage. She had in her possession, 1.595 kilos of cocaine powder. According to the authorities at Lagos, she was very lucky to have been put in custody there. It's because they managed to save her from execution in Saudi Arabia. Also, they managed to save Nigeria from international disrepute. What this says is that the Middle-East is a primary consumer of cocaine. When there is no demand, there is no supply.

Other key news into cocaine consumption in the Middle East concerns a bust over a Saudi prince. According to the New York Post, a Saudi prince had drugs seized at Beirut airport. 40 suitcases were seized containing 4,000 pounds worth of drugs. Ranging from cocaine, captagon, and amphetamines. The New York post was unable to give more details as the case is still under investigation.

Drug addiction is an ongoing problem in the Middle East. It’s a dangerous and helpless dilemma in this region. If caught, you could be executed. How many beheadings have occurred resultant of addiction? Yet,in spite of severe measures at restriction, addiction carries on unabated.

It's because the real solution is not in crime prevention or executions. The solution is around proper treatment for addiction. Something that those living in the Middle-East under the influence of drugs need the most.

Solace Sabah in Malaysian Borneo has the perfect antidote to this problem. That antidote is residential treatment for cocaine addiction. Here, you can be assured of safety, anonymity, and the space to grow from this dangerous illness.
