Substance misuse is a complex subject and a serious public health issue plaguing societies around the world.Observed every year on the 26th of June since 1989, is the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, to mark the importance of the fight against substance trafficking and dependence. It is estimated that 35 million people worldwide suffer from drug use disorders while only 1 in 7 people receive treatment or rehab. In Malaysia, drug trafficking generates billions of ringgits in annual income for the drug cartels. Amphetamine-type stimulants (also known as ice) are the most prevalent drugs, replacing opioids in the drug market, with the government having spent approximately 8.65 billion ringgits to date, to tackle the drug issues and addictions.
Solace Asia, on the front line of the war against alcohol and drug addiction in Malaysia since 2014, has played a pivotal role in providing support to those afflicted by addictions and continues to do, by implementing the most cutting-edge services and clinical methods for addiction and co-occurring disorders treatment, to date.
In conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, Solace Asia is launching a one-month long campaign, offering addiction treatment at a reduced rate. From June 26th to July 26th, a 10 % of the treatment cost for drug and alcohol rehab will be subsidized by the organization for admissions and early booking received during the stated period, in an effort to bring into recovery as many individuals as possible.
Both Malaysians citizens and international clients are entitled to avail of this initiative said CEO and Clinical Director Dr. Prem Kumar Shanmugam, whose vision for a society free of drug and alcohol addiction motivated him to establish Solace 6 years ago. Despite the travel ban in place as a result of the pandemic, international clients can secure their treatment with advanced bookings.
